Two-dimensional quantum dots in high magnetic fields: Rotating-electron-molecule versus composite-fermion approach

چکیده
Exact diagonalization results are reported for the lowest rotational band of N56 electrons in strong magnetic fields in the range of high angular momenta, 70n>1/9). A detailed comparison of energetic, spectral, and transport properties ~specifically, magic angular momenta, radial electron densities, occupation number distributions, overlaps and total energies, and exponents of current-voltage power law! shows that the recently discovered rotating-electron-molecule wave functions @Phys. Rev. B 66, 115315 ~2002!# provide a superior description compared to the compositefermion–Jastrow-Laughlin ones.

Edge states in graphene quantum dots: Fractional quantum Hall effect analogies and differences at zero magnetic field
We investigate the way that the degenerate manifold of midgap edge states in quasicircular graphene quantum dots with zigzag boundaries supports, under free-magnetic-field conditions, strongly correlated manybody behavior analogous to the fractional quantum Hall effect FQHE , familiar from the case of semiconductor heterostructures in high-magnetic fields. Systematic exact-diagonalization EXD n...
متن کاملComposite Fermions in Quantum Dots
We demonstrate the formation of composite fermions in two-dimensional quantum dots under high magnetic fields. The composite fermion interpretation provides a simple way to understand several qualitative and quantitative features of the numerical results obtained earlier in exact diagonalization studies. In particular, the ground states are recognized as compactly filled quasi-Landau levels of ...
متن کاملTrial wave functions with long-range Coulomb correlations for two-dimensional N-electron systems in high magnetic fields
A new class of analytic wave functions is derived for two dimensional N-electron (2<N,`) systems in high magnetic fields. These functions are constructed through breaking ~at the Hartree-Fock level! and subsequent restoration ~via post-Hartree-Fock methods! of the circular symmetry. They are suitable for describing long-range Coulomb correlations, while the Laughlin and composite-fermion functi...
متن کاملSemiconductor quantum dots in high magnetic fields: The composite-fermion view
We review and extend the composite fermion theory for semiconductor quantum dots in high magnetic fields. The mean-field model of composite fermions is unsatisfactory for the qualitative physics at high angular momenta. Extensive numerical calculations demonstrate that the microscopic CF theory, which incorporates interactions between composite fermions, provides an excellent qualitative and qu...
متن کاملMagnetic-field-induced singularities in spin dependent tunneling through InAs quantum dots
Current steps attributed to resonant tunneling through individual InAs quantum dots embedded in a GaAs-AlAs-GaAs tunneling device are investigated experimentally in magnetic fields up to 28 T. The steps evolve into strongly enhanced current peaks in high fields. This can be understood as a fieldinduced Fermi-edge singularity due to the Coulomb interaction between the tunneling electron on the q...
